Fast and Female Champ Chat coming to Ottawa Sunday June 25th!
FFCC Poster_Ottawa 20170613 AC.compressed.pdf (663.04 K)

Please help us keep girls in sport!  Girls who stay in sport are empowered for life!!

We have a Fast and Female event coming to Ottawa primarily for girls 8 to 16. It is Sunday June 25th in conjunction with Road Cycling Nationals to celebrate girls participating in Cycling but it is not a cycling event.  A testimonial reel about our events is here

Fast and Female’s vision is: A positive, empowering environment for girls in sport.

Fast and Female’s mission is: keep girls healthy, happy and active in sports through their teens.

This event highlights three major areas:

- Social Inclusion - we have icebreakers, a group atmosphere, encourage girls getting to know each other

- Health Focus - physical literacy/activity stations, yoga, getting the girls moving and excited about being active in various non-competitive, non-sport specific ways

- Role Modelling - through our ambassador program we are able to bring high-performing athletes in front of these audiences of younger girls in a way that the girls normally wouldn’t get a chance to interact with them. The ambassadors run the activity stations or go around with groups and have a Q&A session with the girls as well. The inspirational chat gives the girls the chance to ask all they want to know about how to get to that level of competition and what it’s like to be there.

I have attached the event poster with the registration link.  This event has come together very last minute and appreciate all efforts to help promote it!

Ringette is on Participation's 150 Play List

Ringette is on Participation's 150 Play List. It has been confirmed with Ringette Canada and Ontario ringette that they have no intention of holding any province or county wide events for people to participate in ringette other than the April 1 event at Nationals in Leduc, Alberta.

We are going to organize a region wide “Participate” in ringette event. It will be very similar to a Come Try ringette but part of the on ice portion will be open to anyone wanting to participate in ringette for the points towards their 150 Play list.

The initial plan is to hold simultaneous events at the west and east Sensplex in either one of the last two weekends in June or the last weekend of August. There is funding available so there should be no cost to any associations. The only thing you may want to look into is flyers or pamphlets to give to individuals about your association.

We are looking for:

  • individuals to help with brainstorming ideas for the events
  •  individuals to help at the actual events, on and off ice
  • sticks -- this is the one thing we need to have for people to participate!

Please have  contact Phyllis at pb ...

U14A Wins Silver in Waterloo

Congrats to the U14A Ice team on a terrific showing in January in Waterloo!  The girls powered through their first 3 round robin games, then faced the tough home town team who'd trounced all their earlier competitors....the Ice came out plucky to hold Waterloo to a hard-fought tie in a big Game 4, before taking Silver in the rematch on Sunday.  Super effort girls!

Belle A win Gold in Nepean
After winning Silver in Oshawa, the City of Ottawa Ringette Association U19A headed to the Nepean tournament, where we knew we were going to have a hard journey; the competition was going to be as fierce as it gets. But ...
We tied Kitchener (who had not lost or tied so far this year), won against Guelph, tied West-Ferris (who had beaten us for Gold in Oshawa), won against Mitchell, and that gave us a spot in the semis; facing Kitchener again, we WON (their first defeat of the year) and onto the final, were we defeated Markham.

All are a little tired - but satisfied - this Monday morning, goes without saying...

U12 Cameron wins Gold in West Ottawa!
The Icebreakers finish their season on a high note taking the Gold Medal this past weekend in West Ottawa. The team played a hard fought battle against Sudbury-Valley East to take the gold in a 3-2 win. Player of Game, Molly McGonegal, broke the ice with her first goal of a well played weekend to get the scoring started and Fan Favorite winner, Zoe Rutherford, finished out the scoring and was in fine form back in her Bulldog style play. While our goalie, Natasha Poitras-Vant had 2 shut outs this weekend between the pipes that helped get us to the final game where she played her heart out.
Congratulations Icebreakers...your coaches are so proud of all your hard work and determination.

Fantastic 4teen Wins Silver at BKRA
The Fantastic 4teen has just returned from a great showing at BKRA's annual tournament, handily winning all three of their games and becoming the team to beat in the final.

Their first game against BKRA was hard fought against a strong rival, and CORA won 7-6 with an especially exciting final two minutes where our goalie and defence held off an onslaught of shots on net.

Game two was a strong showing against PCRA, won 5-3, with lots of excellent example of great team play.

We really showed we meant business with an 8-1 trouncing of our WORA rivals - the team played a solid, strong final game and ended in first place going into the finals.

The last game was against BKRA, and was hard fought and well played. We lost 5-2, but played with heart and skill through the full game.

Thanks to awesome bench staff, parents and opponent teams, all whom helped our girls bring their best to every game.

Way to go girls!!

Two for Two!
Two tournaments and 2 Gold for the Junior B girls. The girls won their second gold medal of the season after they took gold a couple of weekends ago in Gatineau. After going 5-0 in London to win gold they followed up with 4-0 run at this tournament. They're undefeated ?in tournament play this year. On a special note our goalie Brynn and our stellar defense combined for 2 shutouts and only allowed 3 goals in the tournament this past tournament while our offence chipped in for 20 goals.

The coaches couldn't be prouder watching the girls play these tournaments.

Well done girls!!

CORA's *New to Ringette* Special

As CORA parents, we all want our girls to be able to play at the level they want to, both recreationally and competitively, and in order to ensure this can happen we need to grow the sport of ringette.  Over the past few seasons, we've hosted two several well attended Come Try Ringette events, with another one to be scheduled this fall.   To complement this, CORA will offer a discounted rate to first-time ringette players who join at U8 level or above for the 2016-2017 season.  It is our hope that these reduced registration fees ($325) will encourage interested parents/girls to try it!

If you or your daughter know of any interested parties, please spread the word.

Updated: Ringette / Hockey Challenge Fundraiser

A great time was had by all. The girls squeeked out a 5-4 win. Most importantly, the event raised $1023 for Jenna with over 250 people in attendance to watch.

Have you ever wanted to see what would happen if you took a boys hockey team and let them play ringette against one of our better teams? Well now you have the chance.
As part of CORA's fundraising efforts to send Jenna McBride to the World Ringette Championships, the Belle AA team will be playing a ringette game against Glebe Collegiate's boys hockey team on Wednesday, December 18th at 6 pm at Peplinski. The boy's hockey team are in first place in their division and it includes many former competitive players. And they are pretty sure that they can win.
So our girls could really use a strong cheering section with lots of players from Bunnies to Belles in their jerseys cheering like mad. Hopefully your team can make it.
Admission will be $3 per student and $5 per adult. Come and watch these 2 teams duke it out and support this fundraising event!
For more information on our campaign to help Jenna, please go to:

Informative Material on Concussions

This paper is must read for all parents of our ringette players.  Special thanks to Dr. Kristian Goulet for granting us permission to post his very insightful report, as well as to Al Bateman, coach of our Open team, for bringing this to our attention.

Tween/U14 AA Takes Home Bronze as Team Ontario at Easterns
Congratulations to Team Ontario (TAA) at the end of a highly successful and rewarding season! We won Bronze at the Eastern Canadian Championships, Gold at the Ontario Provincials and Gold at two tournaments during the year. Your success was due to your dedication to the game and your altruistic approach to team play. A famous philosopher once said:

“Well, you can’t really pick your favorite thing (about ringette), because it’s like asking you what’s your favorite thing about LIFE. Because there are so many different things, and you put it all together, and it makes it one sport. So, if you take out one aspect, like the speed, well, you can’t have the whole game, without everything… so, like, ya….” -- Philosopher Unknown

Thank you to all bench staff and other volunteers, and especially Patti Ryan, who devoted many hours to the management of the team.
